Wow. I can't believe I haven't posted in over 2 months. I have been well. I have been continuing chemo and have managed with very few side effects. After my week of chemo including the oral chemo, I get sick. My stomach gets upset almost immediately after I have eaten something. I have thankfully completed all of those chemo cycles. I have one week left before my 22nd (of 22) chemo cycles. From there- I will have a scan (hopefully have an idea of when after next Monday's doctor's appointment. If all goes "as planned", I will hopefully be transitioning to maintenance chemo. I will be anxious about the scan once I get a date. It will be waiting for the results that will be the hardest.
I had a bit of a depressing few weeks right in the smack of winter. I knew it was likely to happen, being trapped inside most of the time in the cold. It's always COLDER for me too as I had very little hair. It was growing like a weed. I was about to make myself a HAIR APPOINTMENT when it decided to fall out...but then it was growing so quickly at the same time... I looked like Marv from Home Alone after he was electrocuted. I got my brother to shave my head. Bic'd it. And it had already sprouted!
I have been going to the gym on a semi-regular basis. It's hard to get into a routine with a week of chemo every 3 weeks. I've been doing weights and yoga. I haven't done any cardio except walking the dog. I hope to bike a lot starting as early as the weather permits.
For the most part, I have been hibernating inside with a heated blanket watching tons of shows on Netlflix and knitting (of course!). I have been reading a lot as well. I bought 15+ books in the past month. I've read 3 this past week, alone! Some of them have been on the religious side: Heaven is For Real and Proof of Heaven. Both are very interesting books. I'm definitely more at ease about what happens to me after my body can no longer be my home. I now wonder what heaven will be like as opposed to if I will get there at all. I wonder if Heaven keeps up with the Top 40 songs, or if I can speed skate, or eat Chinese food. I especially would want to be able to continuously see everything that is happening on Earth. If you've ever been "on the fence" about things- I would highly recommend these books to you.
I am off to Toronto on Thursday with my brother. We will visit with my uncle, eat at fantastic restaurants, shop, go to the aquarium and catch a Leaf's game. My brother doesn't get his March break this year because of the professor strike at his university. It just happened to still work out perfectly with his schedule which is good.
I guess that is the most I have at the moment! I have some notes from my journal I will post someday. Once I can organize my thoughts into proper phrases.
too-da-loo!
Hey Laura, I came across your blog while searching on the internet trying to find ways to help my sister. We live in Saint John, NB and my sister was diagnosed 7 months ago with Ewings Sarcoma as well. I'm surprised to find someone so close to home with this rare type of cancer! I hope all is well! Let me know if you have any suggestions for my sister? She is about to start cycle #8...
ReplyDeleteHi Kristen- if you want to email me I'd love to be as much of a help to your sister as I can. My email is Bulmer.laura@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHugs Laura. xox Love the updates. Think of you often. Like my brother, you are a fighter and really big inspirations to anyone who fights with this disease.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI'm a friend of Ali's and I know Kristen's sister too. My mom doesn't know you but she knows the name Laura K. Bulmer because she says a prayer for you every night. You seem like such a strong woman. I just wanted to let you know that you are often in my thoughts (as is Kristen's sister Leah).
Hugs and Lots of Love
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! My name is Venissa Xiao and I was diagnosed with metastasized Ewing's sarcoma in 2013. We're going through a lot of the same stuff so I can really relate to your blog posts. Honestly there's not much that I can say to you that would make any of this better, so all I want to say is I'm here if you need someone to talk to. My email is venissaxiao@hotmail.com and I also have a blog: sunsunsjourney.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, I was diagnosed back in November with a non mets ewing sarcoma on my spine. I have done a ton of research and I was wondering if you have looked into the FANG study being done in Dallas. Might be worth a try. Hoping the best for you.
