Spinach is not only for Popeye

I am 27 now. I remember crying when I turned 20.  Now, I am glad to see 27.  Never complain about your age.  Be thankful for the years you have been given and every experience that has come your way no matter how trying it was.

When I sit in the chemo clinic getting chemo I look around and everyone is staring at me.  It is unusual to see "younger" people in there but it is, unfortunately, becoming more common.  Last week as I was waiting for my chemo there were two people alone in the small 8 by 8 waiting room that were given 2 years to live.  One, a man in his 50s and the other a girl not much older than me.

I have now finished 4 of my 6 chemos... I will have a CT scan about 2 weeks after I am done and see how things look.  I had a very hard day last week discussing potential reconstructive surgery of my sacrum... I was told it wasn't possible but if I want a second opinion I can get one.  And I will.

I spent my birthday in Ottawa which was nice.  I visited with my uncle, nana, some cousins and met my biological grandmother and 3 half-uncles as well which was fantastic! I now have more aunts, uncles and a whole whack of Irish cousins!  When I came back my friends threw me a bash which was so thoughtful as I hadn't been in the mood for much.

A friend recently recommended The China Study to me.  Mom and I finished it in 2 days.  After the first 100 pages I was convinced to change my (already crazy healthy) eating habits to become vegan.  We then watched the documentary Forks over Knives, which is basically the video of the book.  I swear the information provided (more in depth in the book) will change your life and the way you think about what you put in your body forever.

I have been researching alternative medicine a lot and the book and video provide scientific evidence about how negatively animal protein is on our bodies.

I would like to challenge you to try to eat as much of a plant based diet for 2 weeks and see how your feel.  If you can do 2 weeks... try a month.  I cannot give up yogurt, and will eat cheese occasionally but meat and milk are out as they are the worst.  As they say in the documentary- If it has parents, don't eat it!

Not much else to report- doing the usual- read/knit/walk/eat/sleep.  I will be glad when this PICC is out of my arm so I can hit the gym!
